The Silent Challenge: Life with the Deaf

Abstract

The lives of deaf individuals, who live through long and arduous struggles in silence, are shaped by invisible obstacles, incomprehensible expressions, and often unheard cries. However, this silence is not merely a deficiency; it opens the doors to another language, another culture, and another perspective. Speaking hands, expressions strengthened by facial expressions—each one expresses a form of resistance. Deaf individuals are excluded not only because they cannot hear, but also because society fails to listen to them. This exclusion and problems, which extend from education and healthcare to employment and social life, can only be eliminated with empathy and understanding. Ensuring that deaf individuals can take part in society is not only their struggle, but the responsibility of the entire society. Because true communication requires understanding more than just hearing. A person blossoms when they understand and are understood. It must not be forgotten: To listen to silence is to hear humanity.
